NEIGHBORHOOD
In 1906, around 50 acres of Oak Cliff land from Zang to Colorado Boulevard was purchased by a man named Charles Mangold and his business partners. Lake Cliff Park was established and opened to the public on July 4th, 1906. Attracting people of all ages, it was the place to be. Over time, it was quickly coined the “Southwest's Greatest Playground" and housed amusement rides, a giant pool and waterslides, a skating rink named as the world's largest, rose gardens, and three theaters. The park’s slogan became “It’s In Dallas!”Some of the ride names included Mystic River, Shoot-the-Chutes, Circle Swing, Open-Air Circus, and more. By the 1940s, the park became more of a large gathering pool for those to escape the Texas heat.
